Gelato Not To Miss In Rome
Date: 2015-07-21
Gelato (ice cream) is sold pretty much everywhere in Rome. If you ask me that which is the best gelateria (a gelateria is a shop that sells gelato) in Rome? Well, that is a question fiercely debated by any an-d all ice cream lovers. We just recommend some gelaterie, hope to be able to find your favorite taste.
Giolitti
Via Uffici del Vicario, 40 Roma
Perhaps the most famous gelateria in Rome. It is going strong since 1900. You can enjoy the same authentic tastes an-d flavours of those early days. Their fresh an-d natural products making our ice-cream known throughout the world. The store is a meeting place for Romans an-d for numerous polticians from the nearby Chamber of Deputies, as well as being a "must" for the foreign visitors who come to the city all year round.
They still observe strict, traditional Italian bar etiquette here. You can not just saunter up to the bar an-d order two scoops of cioccolato. Go first to the cashier, order the size of coppa (cup) or cono (cone) you want, an-d pay for it. Then take the receipt to the c-ounter where put it down (along with a small coin as a tip), repeat your size, an-d tell them which flavors you want it filled.
Fatamorgana
Via Laurina, 10, 00187 Roma
A branch of the excellent artisan gelato chain with interesting tastes an-d textures in flavors like pear with gorgonzola cheese an-d halva. Fatamorganas ice cream is a "clean label" product, meaning that it contains only the raw materials strictly necessary for the recipe. No thickeners, no preservatives, an-d no food colouring. The absence of these elements makes the ice cream very light, easily digestible an-d enjoyable to eat. Now six outlets have opened in Roma.
Ci Gusta !
Via della Palombella 32-34, Rome
For people who love the real Italian artisanal gelato, ice drinks, smoothies, swirly, fruit salads an-d the delicious sweet burger: you must come here!
San Crispino
Via della Panetteria, 42, 00187 Roma
It opens at 11 AM. A rave review ten years ago in the New York Times raised this gelaterias profile an-d it remains wildly popular with tourists. They take ice cream very seriously here an-d will not serve it to you in a cone, claiming the taste of the cone interferes with that of the gelato. In general, their flavours are creamier an-d more ice-cream like than some gelati.
Palazzo del Freddo (Fassi)
Via Principe Eugenio, 65, 00185, Roma
Gelato craft since 1880. an-d claims to be the oldest an-d largest gelateria in Italy. THey have about 30 flavours to fully satisfy your wishes.
